Banh Mi Dalat

Update: Get the brisket banh mi... It's crazy good. They don't normally put the pickled carrots and daikon on that, so if you still want it, ask. Did I mention the cream puffs?.. So fresh and custardy, I don't even... I guess I accidentally the whole menu. BTW, the staff are wonderfully nice. _____ Consistently excellent banh mi dac biet-- best I've had of probably 8 places, including Lee's and the now closed Ba Le in OKC. The dac biet has all the right components in good ratio, the bread is perfect-- fluffy and soft inside and thinly crusty but not hard on the outside. The veggies are thoroughly pickled. The grilled pork banh mi is an unsweetened style that's super tender and buttery. The kid in me prefers the sweetly sauced style you find at some places, but the quality here is awesome and, really, who needs the sugar. The pho broth is balanced and fragrant and richer than most without being excessively oily. They'll do a meatball & brisket combo if you ask. They didn't have fish sauce, though, but I didn't end up missing it. Then there's the minced pork puff pastries! Those are so flaky and moist and rich, you have to get at least a couple when you go. All around, the most consistently good Vietnamese food that I've had.
