We came here last weekend with two friends, right after they opened. Took a bit of time but we were able to get a seat in the outdoors covered area. It was an interesting but not great ambiance because the floor was turf, and the fact that it was covered on the top and sides meant the area held onto smells and humidity despite the fact that it wasn't raining outside, so it felt a bit musty overall. The ambiance overall seemed to be going for an old-school fancy dive, but for us it felt too much towards the dive part.
We ordered 2 drinks each so we tried a decent bit of their drinks menu, which definitely goes for a classic drink style/flavor/strength at a premium cost. Volume was reasonable for the price, but again the ambiance kind of takes away from it. We ordered the french onion soup which was done very well (not overly cheesy and great onion flavor without being too much). We also ordered the market fish entree, which was great, but no better than us making fresh fish at home, and definitely a small portion. The cheese plate we ordered earlier on was also pretty good, with a variety of cheeses which went well with the bread provided while we waited. Food and drinks overall met but didn't exceed my expectations.
That being said, service was severely below par, not just for a nice restaurant but even compared to a casual diner. No recommendations for food, drinks, or appetizers were provided when requested each time ("everything is good" is not a friendly or valid answer), and the waiter walked away multiple times "because we needed more time" while keeping an overall negative attitude throughout our meal.
Having heard so much about this place, I was pretty disappointed.
