We're in Fredericksburg for an early Valentine's Day, so I'm doing a few reviews outside San Angelo. Unfortunately, we have just been UNlucky, so far. So, today's unlucky winner is Some Kinda Disappointment! I love trying holes in the wall, and this is one. But it got great reviews, so I hoped I was in for a treat. I don't know who is writing those reviews, but they should really try some GOOD bbq! I ordered the 2 meat brisket plate, with beans and cole slaw. My wife got the pork shoulder with beans and potato salad. It took the guy a little time to get that together (no biggie), and his wait staff had no idea how to add up our total (she's new - another no biggie). But what we got - BIGGIE. First, the pork: It was "ok". It was moist and well cooked - but fairly tasteless, with no smoke to speak of. My wife gives it a "3". However, my brisket plate was literally almost nothing but fat. Now, mind you, I am FINE with fat side brisket. But this was ALL FAT! There was no bark. And the exterior of my barkless fat plate was essentially tasteless - just like the pork. It did have a little smoke, but that was about it. The cole slaw was fine - nothing to write home about. Beans were bland (used all the salt I had on those). Potato salad was ok, too. So, the sides were essentially just after thoughts. If the entrees had been good, that would've been fine with me. Bottom line, I encourage Some Kinda BBQ to spend more effort on ensuring the quality of their product, both entree and sides. If they do, it'd be worth visiting again.
